I know, I haven’t finished everything yet, but I am simply so happy to have managed to get the first post functional on my blog!! The fact that Jekyll and Liquid allow this to be done in such a simple way is truly incredible. Although building a site from scratch with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is already quite an achievement, it was only now—when I got the post to appear on the homepage and lead to the page with the post layout—that a sense of tremendous satisfaction and pride washed over me.
I still have plenty of little things to do, namely improving the mobile experience, adding the pages for each of my projects, and giving the design a bit of an upgrade, as I’ve had some ideas to include. Last Monday, I went to show the blog to a friend and opened it through GitHub Pages itself, only to be surprised that everything was unformatted. I didn’t understand it at first, but it was just the directories and URLs that weren’t properly set up to work with Jekyll; it was easily solvable.
Even though I still have things to do and more to learn about Jekyll, I have never been closer to completing this blog than I am now, eight months after starting. I believe I will be able to finish in time for the start of the 2D Games project development this semester so that I can document everything, and I’ll be able to put this blog on both my CV and my LinkedIn.
I am genuinely very excited and very happy; it is one step closer to the life I want for myself.
